Tutorial: Creating a simple label on a background texture

An easy tutorial on creating a small label using a background texture in Photoshop.  Great for personalising your products, in designing scrapbook layouts and for making handy tags.

First open up your chosen texture.  Here I have used a dotty fabric from the The Summer Party Remnant Fabric pack.  (only available from Insight Designs during the SL Home and Garden Hunt 1st – 7th August)re

Duplicate the layer and create a rectangle (or square) shape with the Rectangular Marquee Tool.1

Staying with the Rectangular Marquee tool click on the small icon – subtract from selection and create another smaller rectangle inside the first.2

Make sure your background copy is selected, press ctrl c and then ctrl v to copy and paste the shape into a new layer.  Rename it label.3

Next double click on your label layer to open up the blending mode.  Play around with adding drop shadows, inner shadows, and other options until your label looks a bit more realistic.  Below are the settings I used:45

Still with the label layer, using the magic wand click anywhere in the middle of your label.  create a new layer UNDER your label layer.6

Fill with an off white colour and add a inner shadow (opacity 10)7

Now it’s ready to add your own text or you could carry on and add more textures, rotate the label, stretch it slightly…..all depends on how you would like your finished box and label to look like :)remnants_bright_summer_party_front_blue_insight_designs

Try different fabrics and patterns…..

Great way to package up your products or to create some extra storage boxes for all those clothes.Fabric remnants Summer Party by Insight Designs Textures
